sunday stillness: restore and rebalance - the heart and fire element/ sunday 25th may 2025
Join me for this two-hour special class to restore, rejuvenate and relax with a grounding practice of Yin Yoga.
As we transition from the element of Wood (growth, flexibility) to the element of Fire in early Summer, you’re invited to take time to pause and reconnect with your heart, considered the seat of your Soul, or Higher Self.
In the Yin Yoga tradition, the Summer is associated with the Fire element, which represents sun, expansion, warmth and heat.
Summer is associated to the Heart and Small Intestine energy pathways, (these represent the flow of Chi, or vital energy in our bodies, similar to the flow of Prana as described in the Yoga tradition), which we will be exploring through floor poses, using props and a guided breathing practice.
From a physiological perspective, the Heart and Small Intestine energy pathways relate to balancing the natural heart’s flow/ rhythm or Chi, from any stagnant energy and to amplify it.
When we are resistant to the movement of life we may experience feelings of emptiness and sadness. Balance is key: we can’t have a raging, continuous fire nor can we have a flame that is near extinction. We need the flickering movement of flames to allow us to respond appropriately to the demands of living.
By making time to slow down and move with greater purpose and intention through daily life, the Fire element can help us to embrace flow and meet the whole of our experience with compassion, and kind attention.
So join me to invoke balance and explore the qualities of the Heart energy meridian: lovingkindness, unconditional love warmth, connection and joy, which we’ll explore in this practice, with carefully selected Yin Yoga poses for the upper back and chest, shoulders, neck and arms (mainly floor poses, using props to release tension,). We’ll also enjoy a guided breathing practice, sound and journaling.
The practise will end with a wonderful healing Yoga Nidra.
Yoga nidra, or yogic sleep as it is commonly known, is an immensely powerful meditation technique, and one of the easiest yoga practices to develop and maintain. Practised in savasana (corpse pose), this systematic meditation takes you through the Pancha Maya kosha (five layers of self), leaving you with a sense of wholeness.
You’ll leave feeling rejuvenated, more relaxed, clearer and ready for the week ahead and to embrace the busyness of Summer from a more grounded perspective.
I hope you can join me for renewal and deep relaxation, as well as connecting with like-minded practitioners.
