INTRODUCTION TO JAPA MEDITATION

SUNDAY 12th JANUARY 2024, 2- 5PM     at COOMBES COMMUNITY CENTRE, ROYSTON

Would you like to do something really positive for yourself this new year?

Join me to learn about this ancient, powerful and transformative meditation technique and its many benefits. Whether you are a beginner to meditation or a practitioner looking to renew and recycle your practice, you are invited to take part in this practical and supportive workshop.

What is Japa meditation?

Repetition of any mantra is known as Japa. This is important part, or limb, of Yoga, in the quieting of the mind and its preparation for Dhyana (meditation). The mala beads can also be used in conjunction with mindfulness techniques, as will be explored in this workshop.

Through repetition and repeated effort, a term known in Yoga philosophy as abhyasa, we can create positive patterns in our minds.

“Mantra Japa produces positive mental tracks, helping us to gradually overcome spiritual darkness. It is a powerful technique for focusing the mind and for harnessing the body/mind’s subtle energies in completing the yogic path of self-transformation.” George Feuerstein.

In this three hour workshop we will explore:

  • What is meditation
  • How to use the mala beads in your meditation & the significance of the 108 beads
  • The techniques available in this method, from mindfulness to using mantra & the healing power of sound
  • An introduction to some simple mantras and their meanings
  • You will be guided through a simple Japa practice followed by a guided meditation so you’ll get to experience for yourself the wonderful benefits and simplicity of this beautiful spiritual sadhana (spiritual practice).

-You will come away with tools for your own personal practice and I hope you’ll feel empowered in your own practice.

-You’ll receive a handout with notes and further reading suggestions.

-Please note that there will be no asana class (poses) during the workshop.
